FTDI is a professional semiconductor company headquartered in Glasgow, UK, with quite a long history and market awareness especially in Europe in US. It has been well known by its leading position in USB-related semiconductor development, specifically for the end applications of communication, industrial control, medical, and instrument. Now it has also successfully taken a position in the digital consumer application. FTDIs competing advantage lies in providing complete solutions to lead the market demands by chips, reference designs, firmwares, softwares, and evaluation modules, in order to assist the customers to easily finish the design-in in a short time frame with quality end products. FTDI has established a global sales and support network, including two branches located in US and Taiwan, respectively. Now FTDI offers a wide range of easy to use USB host and slave bridge chips supporting UART, FIFO, SPI, and I²C control interfaces, together with complete drivers and firmwares support kits. It also offers a series of evaluation modules and cables to support the customers' design-in phase.

FT232BL – USB UART (USB – Serial) IC

The FT232BL is the lead free version of the 2nd generation of FTDI's popular USB UART I.C. This device not only add extra functionality to its FT8U232AM predecessor and reduces external component count, but also maintains a high degree of pin compatibility with the original, making it easy to upgrade or cost reduce existing designs as well as increasing the potential for using the device in new application areas.

FT245BL – USB FIFO (USB – Parallel) IC

The FT232BL is the lead free version of the 2nd generation of FTDI's popular USB UART I.C. This device not only add extra functionality to its FT8U232AM predecessor and reduces external component count, but also maintains a high degree of pin compatibility with the original, making it easy to upgrade or cost reduce existing designs as well as increasing the potential for using the device in new application areas.

FT232R – USB UART (USB – Serial) IC

The FT232R is a USB to serial UART Interface. It is a single chip USB to asynchronous serial data interface solution, with a unique USB FTDIChip-IDTM feature, synchronous and asynchronous bit bang interface options and is USB 2.0 Full Speed compatible.

FT245R – USB FIFO (USB – Parallel FIFO) IC

The FT245R is a USB to parallel FIFO interface. It is a single chip USB to parallel FIFO bidirectional data interface solution, with a unique USB USB FTDIChip-IDTM feature, synchronous and asynchronous bit bang interface options and is USB 2.0 Full Speed compatible.

FT2232D – Dual USB UART/FIFO IC

The FT2232D is an updated version of FTDI's 3rd generation USB UART / FIFO IC family. This device features two Multi-Purpose UART / FIFO controllers which can be configured individually in several different modes. As well as a UART interface, FIFO interface and Bit-Bang IO modes of the 2nd generation FT232BM and FT245BM devices, the FT2232D offers a variety of additional new modes of operation, including a Multi-Protocal Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE) interface which is designed specifically for synchronous serial protocols such as JTAG, I2C, and SPI bus.

FT232H – Single Channel Hi-Speed USB to UART/FIFO Interface IC

The FT232H, with the ability to be placed in various serial & parallel I/O configurations, including a proprietary dynamic bi-directional data bus. As well as supporting asynchronous serial (UART) interfacing, the FT232H also supports interface to many synchronous IOs such as SPI, I2C, JTAG, and FPGA programming interfaces, via its inbuilt Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE), which is capable of communication speeds of up to 30Mbits/s. In addition, MPSSE can be utilised by design engineers to implement their own synchronous serial bus protocols.

Incorporated as an interface option into the FT232H, is the new FT1248 bus - a proprietary, synchronous, half-duplex serial/parallel interface capable of communicating with external logic at data rates of up to 30Mbytes/s. The unusual feature of the FT1248 bus is its ability to trade off bandwidth against the number of physical data lines (one, two, four or eight) available to connect the FT232H to external logic, thus providing optimum flexibility to the system designer.

FT2232H –Dual High Speed USB to Multipurpose UART/FIFO IC

The FT2232H is FTDI's 5th generation of USB devices. The FT2232H is a dual channel USB 2.0 High Speed (480Mb/s) to UART/FIFO IC. It has the capability of being configured in a variety of industry standard serial or parallel interface.

FT4232H –Quad High Speed USB to Multipurpose UART/FIFO IC

The FT4232H is FTDI's 5th generation of USB devices. The FTR232H is a quad channel USB 2.0 High Speed (480Mb/s) to UART/MPSSE ICs. The device features 4 interfaces. Two of these have an option to independently configure an MPSSE engine. This allows the FT4232H to operate as two UART/Big-Bang ports plus two MPSSE engines used to emulate JTAG, SPI, I2c, Bit-bang or other synchronous serial modes.

VNC1L

VNC1L is a single chip embedded USB host controller IC device. The entire USB protocol is handled on the chip. The device supports two independent USB 2.0 Low-speed/Full-speed USB host ports with integrated pull-update and pull-down resistors.

VNC2 – Second generation device

VNC2 expands on the abilities of the VNC1L devices with more memory and a faster processor. It also has a debug port and is supported with a suite of software development tools available to customers to create own firmware.
